English Vinglish director Gauri shinde’s Dear Zindagi is this week’s big release. The film stars Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt in lead roles. Dear Zindagi is jointly produced by Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan. Alia has already two hits in the form of Kapoor & Sons and Udta Punjab in her kitty this year but SRK has a bit disappointment as his Fan does not impress at the box office. So now let us see will Alia prove lucky for SRK or not?
Kaira (Alia Bhatt) is an aspiring cinematographer, who is going through serious crisis in her life. Kaira is very good at work, but she is not getting a break in the professional as well as personal front.
However, when things become too much delicate to handle, she decided to consult a therapist. Now Dr Jehangir Khan aka Jug (Shah Rukh Khan) enters into Kaira's life and he tries to analyze Kaira’s problems and make her embrace life.
How Jug changes Kaira’s mindset? What happens to Kaira’s career? Did Jug changes Kaira’s life? Forms the rest of the story.
Dear Zindagi is just another movie that showcases the powerful potential of Alia Bhatt. You can’t take off your eyes from her on screen, when she really gets into a scene, especially the ones that show her outbursts.
She is simply brilliant in her first consultation scene with Shah Rukh Khan and also in the scene where she relives her childhood trauma. The way Gauri Shinde interpreted her character is too good.
Meanwhile, Shah Rukh, is a catalyst in Alia’s life as he tries to solve her life problems. The man uses his natural charm and dimpled smile to effective use, and we are sure girls are gonna gaga over him.
However, what we impressed is about SRK is that he allowed Alia to own the show, as he lets himself be a viewer in those scenes. Among the other leading men, Ali Zafar oozes charisma, while Kunal Kapoor lends able support.
When it comes to direction, we must say as far as Gauri Shinde’s movies go, we still love her debut flick better. It had a tighter narrative than Dear Zindagi. But, it doesn’t mean that this movie is a weak attempt. The film has some really excellent moments, and natural warmth in the proceedings as well. One such example of brilliant writing and execution is the last meeting of SRK and Alia. The songs by Amit Trivedi sink with the narrative mood in the film.
The movie is tad too long with two and half hours and the scenes between Alia and SRK were supposed to be major asset of the film. But apart from the first two scenes and the last one, the rest are too repetitive. However, those who expect this film as a rom-com and out and out Shah Rukh Khan Movie may get disappointed.
If you love slice of life movie, Dear Zindagi will definitely appeal to you. Watch it for Alia Bhatt’s best performances and SRK being his charming best.
