Tamil Nadu honorable Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa breathed her last night at 11:30pm after being treated for a lung infection for over 70 days. On December 4th, she suffered a sudden cardiac arrest and was rushed to Hospital immediately.
However, since then her condition had been critical and a team of experts were appointed to check her health. She was on life support for both her lungs and heart.
The news of her death has come as a shock to people that Jayalalithaa’s condition was returning to normalcy and that her vital organs were functioning well. Tamil Nadu has lost a great leader of the masses who did commendable work for her state people. The people have lost their Amma as she is fondly called. Jayalalithaa did a lot for her state like no other.
Jayalalithaa was born into a Tamil Iyengar Brahmin family. She rose to stardom as an actress and acted in over 140 films across all South Indian languages. In fact, she was the highest paid Indian actress in the period of 1965-1980.
Later she forayed into active politics with the influence of MG Ramachandran. For five times, Jayalalithaa served as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu state representing AIADMK party. And she is the third Chief Minister besides CN Annadurai and MG Ramachandran.
The funeral will be held at Marina beach at 4:30pm. The Tamil Nadu Government has issued a 7 day state mourning. Schools and colleges will be shut for 3 days and there will be no official entertainment held for 1 week. As per the reports, Panneer Selvam will soon take on as Chief Minister; however an official announcement is yet to be made by the officials.
